1. Vocabulary – Student Qualities & School Success

Objective: Learn key words to describe students and their school results (hard-working, lazy, intelligent, weak, serious, careless, shy, motivated, pass/fail an exam, get good marks, repeat a year…).

A. Adjectives & definitions

Match each adjective with the correct definition. Then use four adjectives to describe yourself as a student.

Adjectives:

  • absent-minded
  • motivated
  • shy
  • talkative

Definitions (examples):

  1. Works a lot and makes a big effort.
  2. Does not like to work or make an effort.
  3. Very good at understanding and learning new things.
  4. Not strong at a subject; often gets low marks.
  5. Takes school and studies seriously; responsible.
  6. Does not pay enough attention; makes mistakes easily.
  7. Often forgets things; does not pay attention.
  8. Interested and ready to work because they want to succeed.
  9. Does not speak much; feels afraid to speak in class.
  10. Speaks a lot, sometimes too much.

B. Verbs & school success

Complete and use verb–noun collocations about school: pass / fail an exam, get good marks, do homework, miss classes, repeat a year…

ركّز مع التلاميذ على الفرق بين good / weak student باستعمال أوصاف بسيطة: hard-working, lazy, intelligent, weak, serious, careless. أعطِ أمثلة من القسم (بدون ذكر الأسماء) وربط المعجم بـ pass/fail an exam, get good marks, repeat a year باش يفهمو العلاقة بين السلوك والنتائج.

2. Reading – “Do girls do better than boys at school?”

Objective: Read a text comparing girls’ and boys’ performance at school and answer comprehension questions (T/F, WH, reference, opinion).

Pre‑reading questionnaire (examples)

  • In your class, who usually gets better marks: girls or boys?
  • Who reads more books at home?
  • Who is better at languages? Who is better at maths?

While‑reading tasks:

  • Choose the best title for the text.
  • Answer True/False + correct the false sentences.
  • Answer WH questions and reference questions (they / them / this).

Post‑reading: Discuss if girls really do better than boys in your school and write a short paragraph (6–8 lines) giving your opinion.

الموضوع بسيط وقريب لحياتهم: البنات أو الأولاد – شكون كيدير نتائج أحسن؟ دير أسئلة تمهيدية قصيرة، من بعد قراءة عامة لاختيار العنوان، ثم T/F والأسئلة المرجعية. في الأخير خلي التلاميذ يناقشو وضعيتهم فالقسم ويكتبوا رأي شخصي بجمل بسيطة.

3. Grammar – Simple Past Tense (Revision)

Objective: Revise the simple past of regular and irregular verbs to talk about past school days and routines.

Context – A Busy School Day

Yesterday, I got up at seven o’clock. I had a quick breakfast and then I went to school. The first class was English, and we did a reading activity. Later, I played football with my friends. After school, I watched a film and studied for my test.

Rule (reminder):

  • Regular: play → played, watch → watched, study → studied.
  • Irregular: go → went, have → had, do → did, be → was/were, get → got.

Typical tasks:

  • Complete a verb table (base form → past simple).
  • Gap‑fill text “A Busy School Day”.
  • Put sentences in the past, make negatives, ask WH‑questions.

هاذ الدرس غير مراجعة للـsimple past اللي خدموه فالسنة الماضية. ذكّرهم بالفرق بين الأفعال المنتظمة والغير المنتظمة، واستعمل سياق نهار دراسي عادي: I got up – I went – I studied – I watched. خلي التمارين مرتبطة بالمدرسة والامتحانات باش يبقى المعنى واضح.

4. Functions – Expressing Opinion, Agreeing & Disagreeing

Objective: Ask for and give opinions about school topics, and agree or disagree politely.

Useful expressions

Asking for opinion: What’s your opinion about…? / What do you think of…? / How do you feel about…?
Giving opinion: In my opinion… / I think (that)… / From my point of view…
Agreeing: I agree (with you). / I completely agree. / That’s true.
Disagreeing: I don’t agree (with you). / I’m not sure I agree. / I see your point, but…

Typical tasks:

  • Match expressions with their function (ask/give opinion, agree, disagree).
  • Complete mini‑dialogues about uniforms, homework, exams.
  • Pair‑work role plays using the expressions.

توضيحات بالعربية (Functions)

فسّر للتلاميذ أن الهدف هو إعطاء الرأي والموافقة والاعتراض بطريقة مهذبة. استعمل مواضيع قريبة منهم: homework, exams, school uniforms, mobile phones. درّبهم على جمل قصيرة ثم رول بلاي بين تلميذين: واحد مع الفكرة وواحد ضدها باستعمال I agree / I don’t agree / I see your point, but….

5. Writing – Postcard about Your School

Objective: Write a short postcard (60–80 words) to a friend describing your school, teachers, subjects and facilities.

Parts of a postcard

  • Greeting: Dear … / Hi …
  • Body: information about school, teachers, subjects, classmates.
  • Closing: Write back soon / Best wishes…
  • Signature: your name.

Sample frame:

Dear …,
How are you? I’m writing to tell you about my school. It is called … It is in … It is (big/small/modern/old).
Our teachers are … My favourite subjects are … because … We have … (library, lab, sports field…).
My classmates are … We usually … together.
Write to me soon and tell me about your school.

توضيحات بالعربية (Writing)

ذكّرهم بأجزاء الpostcard (greeting – body – closing – signature) باستعمال النموذج في الكتاب. دير pre‑writing: brainstorm عن المدرسة (الاسم، المكان، الأساتذة، المواد، المرافق، الأصدقاء)، من بعد planning في جدول، ثم drafting فبطاقة شبه جاهزة. راقب التركيز على simple present والمعجم ديال education.
