Unit 5: Women and Power – Mastering Cause and Effect

Welcome, dear students! مرحبا بكم تلاميذي الأعزاء في درس جديد!

In Unit 5: Women and Power, we explore how women’s contributions shape societies. From political leadership to economic independence, empowering women leads to progress for everyone.Today, we will focus on a key language function essential for your writing and speaking skills: Cause and Effect. We will look at how to connect ideas to explain why things happen and what the results are.(see the generated image above)

Understanding Cause and Effect (الفهم العام)

·        Cause: The reason why something happens.

o  السبب: هو "علاش" وقعات الحاجة، يعني المصدر ديال الحدث.

·        Effect: The result or outcome of that action.

o   النتيجة: هي "شنو طرا" من بعد، يعني الأثر ديال هاديك الحاجة.When discussing "Women and Power," we often analyze how specific actions (Causes) lead to positive changes in society (Effects).

Key Linking Words (أدوات الربط)

To express these relationships, we use specific linking words. Pay attention to the grammar rules for each group!

1. To Express Cause (باش نعبرو على السبب):

·        Because / Since / As (+ subject + verb)

o   هادو كايجي موراهوم جملة كاملة (Subject + Verb).

·        Due to / Thanks to / Because of (+ noun phrase)

o  رد البال! هادو كايجي موراهوم غير "اسم" أو "عبارة اسمية"

o   (Noun Phrase)، ماشي جملة فيها فعل.

Example: Due to her high level of education, she became a successful manager.
بفضل المستوى الدراسي العالي ديالها (اسم)، ولات مسيرة ناجحة.

2. To Express Effect (باش نعبرو على النتيجة):

·        Consequently / As a result / Therefore / Thus

·        So (informal) / Leads to

o  هادو كنستعملوهم فاش كنبغيو نقولو "وبالتالي" أو "ولهذا". غالبا كيجيو فوسط الهضرة باش يربطو بين السبب والنتيجة.

Example: The government passed new laws protecting women; consequently, violence against women decreased.
الحكومة دارت قوانين جديدة كتحمي النساء؛ وكنتيجة لهادشي، العنف ضد النساء نقص.
